Case of the Week: Tax Efficient Charitable Planning

The SituationDo you have clients who are age 70 or older and are making charitable gifts?  Are they doing so in an income and estate tax efficient manner?  Do they realize that a significant opportunity to reduce their current taxable income and their future taxable estate while benefiting a charity will expire at the end of 2007?

Time is running out for older, charitably inclined, clients!

The Solution – For 2007, your client can make a contribution to a charity of their choice directly from their IRA which will satisfy their Required Minimum Distribution without incurring taxable income ($100,000 maximum).  The client can then use a wealth replacement trust to offset this gift to a charity, further reducing their taxable estate!

Contact your Advanced Markets Director for information on how your older, wealthy clients should be making their charitable contributions for 2007 and how they can replace this wealth for their heirs!
